Laundry 365 days working for the Electrolux Primus Hydro Extractor

Laundry 365 are a laundry supply company with a difference, they literally are available 365 days a year to help their customers and the experience comes from a company set up by personnel that had been in the laundry business for a good many years. The result is a company that has the ability to supply commercial laundry machines covering the full range of the industries requirements from all the major manufacturers and who can also give advice or can even design and build any laundry according to the customer’s specifications. When Laundry 365 is teamed with Electrolux, the great Swedish Laundry and Kitchen machine producer, in the supply of the Electrolux range of hydro extractors there is a good chance that the customer will get a good piece of equipment which can be serviced 365 days a year. Electrolux is the second largest producer of household goods in the world and has vast experience in producing excellent machines both under its own name and also many others.

Laundry 365 is pleased to promote the Electrolux Primus range of Hydro Extractors, which includes the massive HEM 289 18 kg model designed for the large commercial laundry. The hydro extractor is built to remove excess water after the washing machine has done its job. Instead of spending time with spin dryers working for long periods of time the Electrolux Hydro Extractor will do the job quickly efficiently. The Electrolux Hydro Extractor HEM 289 18 kg model has a vertical stainless steel drum for extremely long life and spins at up to 1450 rpm. This very high spin rate creates extreme G forces within the machine and removes the water from the laundry very rapidly. The result is that the laundry comes out of the machine only slightly damp and ready for ironing. Laundry 365 is pleased to note that the Electrolux Hydro Extractor HEM 289 18 kg model produces finished laundry in a state that the commercial ironing machine only requires one pass to finish the laundry.

The Electrolux Hydro Extractor is built to reduce the production time of the laundry cycle and although it at first seems to be an extra process it decreases the overall working time quite considerable and has become an invaluable piece of equipment in most commercial laundries. Laundry 365 is able to supply these machines with the flexible suspension stainless steel drum for low noise and reduced vibration from the machine, this also reduces the wear on the machine and helps with the life cycle of the machine. TheElectrolux Hydro Extractor can also be supplied with a fixed stainless steel drum for use in applications where the suspended drum would be a problem such as on ships, drilling platforms and laundrettes.

Laundry 365 will advise on the use of the full range of Electrolux Hydro Extractors from small to large so that the customer can obtain the best type of machine for his laundry application. Their vast knowledge is important in making sure that not only do they supply the best machine but also to make sure there is no duplication or money wasted in the process.

Wormald Urges Watercraft Owners To Consider Fire Protection

As many Australians take to the water to enjoy the long warm summer days, fire protection specialist Wormald is urging watercraft owners and operators to ensure they have adequate fire protection equipment on board.

According to Mark Brown, National Marine Manager with Wormald Technology, regardless of boat size or type, or whether it’s used for commercial or recreational purpose, careful consideration should be given to ensuring fire protection equipment is in place. “Inadequate or improper fire protection can, in the case of a fire, expose those on board to extreme dangers and lead to potential loss of equipment and assets.

“Before setting sail, it’s important to identify all fire hazards and install suitable fire protection equipment. The choice of fire extinguisher, fire blankets and fire detection equipment will depend on a vessel’s type and size so it’s a good idea to consult a fire protection expert”, says Brown.

Powder fire extinguishers ABE are the most widely used type of fire extinguisher and work by discharging a fine powder that smothers fire. Available in a range of sizes, they are suitable for most vessels.

Smoke alarms should be installed in cabin and saloon areas, and thermal detection systems should be considered for spaces where machinery is located. “In the event of a fire, smoke alarms can assist in providing the precious time needed to act or escape. Regularly check that the alarms are working by pushing the test button and replace batteries as necessary.”

Once fire protection equipment is installed, it should be regularly serviced to ensure it is in proper working order. “Any fire protection equipment on board should perform to the standard to which it was originally designed and installed to. Regular checks and servicing can help uncover any faults or issues that may prevent the equipment from working correctly at the time of greatest need,” says Brown.

Ferco Provides Seating to Major London Olympics Legacy Venues

Few will ever forget the sights and sounds of the historic London Olympic Games, but they might not realise that one of the UK’s premier stadium seating manufacturers had been at work behind the scenes; providing seating solutions for some of the most high profile arenas of the games.

But the Olympic legacy is still alive and well, and Ferco is also manufacturing seats for brand new developments outside of London which maintain the spirit of excellence and achievement that was born during the games; developments such as Orford Jubilee Park in Warrington, a state of the sporting facility for Sports, Leisure and Health Education students at Warrington College.

The Orford Jubilee Park is the latest Olympic legacy development outside of the capital. This £30 million arena is designed to house an array of exciting sporting activities and course provisions for the college, and thanks to the team at Ferco seating it can comfortably accommodate a host of interested spectators.

The project used riser mounted Ferco FCB-M seats which, while cost effective, boast a unique design and ergonomic build. Widely regarded as the most comfortable plastic spectator seat on the market, the Ferco FCB-M stadium seating solution was the ideal choice for this exciting new sports venue.

Of course, sporting arenas are rarely more breathtaking than the London Olympic Aquatic Centre and this premier sports facility at the heart of the Olympic experience also opted for the high quality Ferco FCB-M stadium seats.

The Aquatic Centre was designed by the award winning architect Zaha Hadid, who endeavoured to incorporate fluid motion into the building’s design. The Ferco FCB-M seats were the perfect solution to maintain this effect thanks to their fluid, curved design. The architects chose the beam variant of the FCB-M in order to provide the flexibility required by the stringent legacy requirements. The Olympic Games might have closed, but the Olympic legacy lives on and the Aquatic Centre will continue to host major sporting events. Ferco seating was chosen to provide a long lasting seating solution which will be in place for years to come.

The genius of this Olympic seating solution is that it was designed for simple reconfiguration after the Olympic Games. The Aquatic Centre is currently being redeveloped into a multi-faceted venue and the FCB-M beam mounted stadium seats have allowed for comprehensive reconfiguration of the spectator area which retains the same high quality seating solution.

Laundry 365 Bolts Down for Extra Speed And Performance

Laundry 365 is pleased to supply the full range of laundry machines from small to large and from basic to high tech machines for specialist markets. Laundry 365 was started by an experienced set of managers with many years of working in the laundry industry who always aim to get the very best in quality and performance from the cleaning equipment supplied for their customers. This base has allowed the company to develop a full range of equipment which will cover all the basic requirements of any customer.

The washing machine market is one part of the laundry business where there are a number of options that can be taken to improve performance within the washing process. Laundry 365 is able to help in making those decisions and is able to supply equipment to give the best possible results in terms of cleanliness, productivity and energy savings. There are many washing machines to choose from and one choice is whether to bolt the machine down or leave it free-standing. Laundry 365 is pleased to be able to supply a range of bolt down washing machines as well as a range of free standing models.

Laundry 365 notes that the bolt down washing machine is specially designed to take advantage of a floor fitting and to use that support to allow the machine to work harder and more efficiently. These machines have a base construction that is generally very solid and the vibrations generated by the machine are conducted down the support frame to the floor. This enhances the stability of the washing machine and allows the machine to work much harder than a normal free-standing machine. The major area where this happens is in the spinning cycle of the washing programme as the bolt down washing machine allows the machine to use a fast spin cycle. Laundry 365 is delighted to promote these machines as they are able to remove more water from the laundry by increasing the G force during the spin cycle and with less water retention in the fabric then the drying time is less. This means that there is less energy used to dry the washing and a faster production rate is achieved. Laundry 365 also notes that there is less linting in the processing and hence there is an increased fabric life in the products washed.

Laundry 365 notes that the bolt down washing machine can often have a number of different special energy and productivity saving devices which have been designed to assist in the operation of the washing cycle. These can be a wash weighing system that will determine the amount of water that is added to the wash and hence the time cycle of the wash resulting in the minimum energy usage and the maximum productivity. In some machines a special balancing system will allow the maximum G force to be determined and the machine to be controlled to achieve this in order to allow the maximum water extraction from the washing.

Laundry 365 will be pleased to advise any customer on the best system for their operation by email or by telephone.

IntelLiDrives, Inc. releases XY Table with Air bearings for precision manufacturing

IntelLIDrives, Inc. has released a new XY table http://www.intellidrives.com/systems-c-18.html utilizing planar linear motor technology in a single plane direct drive positioning stage. This innovative design offers the unique capability to operate two axes of motion in one plane with one motor.

Two component system consists of passive, magnet-free stationary platen, constructed of lightweight composite materials, and dual axes moving forcer, gliding on the air bearings over special “waffle-like “surface called platen. Planar forcer contains two or four linear motor modules oriented 90 degrees to each other. As linear motor modules respond to varying currents, forcer moves across the platen to produce continuous linear motion. Forcers can be controlled in translation and rotation modes to perform XY and theta (couple degrees) motions.

Stage is built with field replaceable cable track, enclosing electrical cable and air supply, and a panel, containing user electrical and air connectors for a “plug-and-play” installation in less than 5 minutes.

Scalable forcer design provides forces from 25N to 500N, motion repeatability 2 microns, travel length up 1.5 m x 1 m.

IntelLiDrives, Inc. Cartesian system is capable of velocities 2 m/sec, compatible with standard micro stepping indexer/drivers and offer a cost effective, compact envelope planar linear positioning system.

This system is designed for high accuracy, repeatability and speed, simplifying design by eliminating problem associated with stackable XY tables, where one axis is being carried by another. As a result positioning stage with the Planar XY table offers greater reliability and performance through design simplification and elimination of wear-prone components.

Planar XY table system can operate in any orientation (side wall, upside-down) with multiple forcers installed and operated independently on a single platen for high throughput and flexibility in many robotic automation applications

Dakshidin Update

Dakshidin Corporation Update. (Pink Sheets: DKSC)

Since the last update, Dakshiden Corporation has been struggling to complete and close an agreement with what initially appeared to be a very interested party however, to date has not been successful in doing so. After a number of meetings it emerged that the company that we were negotiating with had a number of internal issues to deal with prior to being able to make any commitment and eventually it abruptly ceased all correspondence with Dakshidin Corporation.

As a part of those negotiations, Dakshidin Corporation was undertaking a financial audit. Despite the fact that communications with the other party stopped prior to Dakshidin Corporation having to supply them the financial statements, we were still endeavoring to complete the audit but were unable to do so as a result of a lack of funds; in fact, the company has not had the funds necessary to provide regular updates.

As a result of this long period without sales, Dakshidin Corporation is once again in default with Restec LLC. however, Restec LLC has assured Dakshidin Corporation that an order of 50 windmills would cure this default. 50 windmills is the minimum order acceptable to the manufacturer.

Dakshidin Corporation is currently exploring other sources to initiate and close a deal for the manufacturing and sales of the water pumping windmills however, given the disappointing results of the past, we do not wish to give the impression that any deal is imminent. We will release updates as soon as there is something tangible to report.

Capital Online Supply Green Power Steam Cleaners

Capital Online have pleasure in supplying the Green Power Dry Steam Cleaner which has a great advantage of filling an unfulfilled niche in the cleaning market place. Unfortunately in the cleaning business it is almost impossible to fill the cleaning market with a one size fits all machine and so the usual case is that sometimes there is a requirement for a range of equipment items in order to fully satisfy the requirements for a superb clean. The Green Power Dry Steam Cleaner is one of those pieces of equipment being a hand held small nozzled machine built specially to carry out its work in those areas which require small concentrated work areas and where it is impossible to use a large machine.

Capital Online supply already a nice line of large steam cleaners which will bottom clean large areas quickly and efficiently but any large building has small areas where the larger machines cannot get. This is particularly relevant to bathrooms and washrooms where there is a desperate requirement to obtain top of the range cleaning in difficult small spaces and niches. Places like around the toilet bowls or in the corners of shower cabinets are particularly vulnerable. Kitchens can also be places of serious risk of infections that require the best available cleaning equipment and techniques. Capital Online are also note that the unit is ideal for removal of chewing gum which is one of the worst problems that can be found in any cleaning system. The Green Power Dry Steam Cleaner is ideal for spot deposits of chewing gum as it lifts the gum by heating it and letting it gently peel away from the source of the deposit ready for disposal while leaving the base material undamaged.

Capital Online is particularly pleased with the operating cycle of this unit as it can be readied for usage in a very short time. This is ideal for a unit, as basically the steam cleaner can be left in storage until required by the operator. The unit takes approx. 20 seconds to heat the 500 ml of water that it uses to reach temperature of 120 degrees C which is the standard operating temperature of the Green Power unit. This start up time means that there is no demand for the unit to be filled and ready to go at all times although anticipation can remove some of the delays, certainly in can be readied and used in a matter of minutes. The temperature of 120 degrees C is such that it kills germs and bacteria and this has to be a major plus in the scheme of things and it is also ideal for serious spot and chewing gum removal which it does without any damage being done onto the carpet, rugs or upholstery on which it is found.

Capital Online Steams Ahead For Safe Cleaning

Capital Online supply some excellent steam cleaners, which are ideal for safe and very efficient steam cleaning in a range of businesses and has worked well for many years to achieve the best in the business. Capital Online are pleased to be able to offer 2 particular models from Osprey the manufacturers of steam cleaners. The first is the Osprey Robby 3000 which is a good workhorse model and the second is the Osprey Provap Eco Vap which can either be purchased or rented on contract. The cost of the second steam cleaner is such that it costs in excess of £2,700 and Capital Online realises there is probably a more limited regular usage for this model but it is still ideal for an interval standard clean and so the contact allows usage for the period required. If it is on a continuous contract this is often more useful to the cleaning contractor as the large financial outlay at the start of the work could put an unnecessary strain on finances. The rental system is obviously a good system for the contract cleaner who has a large amount of regular work which can be dealt with on a normal basis and financed out of regular income.

Capital Online is a great fan of good steam cleaners as this system of cleaning offers a great deal in the effectiveness of the cleaning and also the speed of the operation and it is also very environmentally friendly. The steam is general called dry when there is less than 5 to 6% water content in the steam. This allows good safe cleaning at a temperature of 180 degrees C which kills the germs and removes all the dirt and grime from almost any surface quickly efficiently and without any damage. The amount of water used if very low and there are no detergents used at any one time which makes the whole operation very environmentally friendly. Care does have to be taken on where a commercial steam cleaner is used as obviously the high temperatures can damage delicate materials but they are ideal for deep cleaning in kitchens and catering establishments where it removes dirt and grime and fatty deposits and leaves a sparkling surface, it works well on the stainless steel surfaces found in these places.

The steam cleaner is excellent at removing grease and this makes it particularly useful in an industrial application. Capital Online (http://www.capitalonline.biz) particularly like the use of gum removal abilities. This is always one of the more difficult items to remove and one of the most obnoxious items leaving a residue that is sticky and extremely difficult to remove. Provided there is no chance of damaging the material on which the gum has been deposited then the gum can be removed simply and quickly and permanently. The advantages of having a cleaning system which uses little water and no detergents or chemicals will become more important as the rules get tougher and Capital Online is pleased to be at the forefront of reducing the problems.

Line Generators for Machine Vision Offer Improved Performance

Coherent Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) has introduced a new range of diode-laser based line generators which deliver enhanced flexibility, unique output optimization capabilities, and extended lifetimes. This series of new line generators, called the StingRay, will enable the construction of faster and more accurate machine vision systems that utilize 3D triangulation. The   StingRay series mates a diode laser with high performance electronics and precision, refractive optics for collimation and line generation covering the widest available range of fan angles. They also incorporate optional diffractive elements for creating complex output patterns.  StingRay models are available with output powers as high as 200 mW and at key wavelengths throughout the 450 nm to 1550 nm spectral range, including the popular 450 nm, 520 nm, 635 nm, and 660 nm lines.

StingRay lasers are the first to feature an industry leading, line intensity non-uniformity down to ±5% in a standard product. This high uniformity reduces the need for image post-processing, and translates directly into increased measurement speed and dimensional accuracy. StingRay lasers are also unique in offering external user focusable optics, which allow the laser line to be precisely optimized for the exact distance over which it is projected.  Additionally, the StingRay’s optomechanical design permits “dynamic line balancing,” enabling simple correction of any intensity bias in configurations where the laser must be used at off axis illumination angles. To further enhance usability, Stingray lasers also include an internal “health monitor” that indicates when a diode module is approaching end of life, thus allowing for planned replacement, and avoiding production downtime due to an unexpected failure.

Shipping magnate Abdul Qadir Rahman Buhari, the Managing Director of The WAM International, has sealed yet another tender floated by the Tamil Nadu Electrical Board

Shipping magnate Abdul Qadir Rahman Buhari, the Managing Director of The West Asia Maritime International is beginning to raise a few eyebrows in the shipping corridors. In his dogged pursuit of owning ships and winning contracts, the captain of the Chennai-based Corporation has sealed yet another tender floated by the Tamil Nadu Electrical Board which, sources say is tailor-made for Mr Buhari’s self-unloading bulk carrier – the Gem of Ennore, which is intended to move thermal coal from Paradip in Orissa to Ennore/Tuticorin/Karaikal.

The haulier is currently time-chartered by the Tamil Nadu State-owned Poompuhar Shipping Corporation and its 10-year charter period ends Sept/Oct, 2012.

Interestingly, the TNEB’s fresh tender appears to be designed in such a way that no other ship in India has the capacity to bid for it (the tender for the contract has specifically asked for a self unloader feature on the vessel). It’s a home-run for the Gem of Ennore and a smooth transition from one deal to another.

One happens to wonder how a credible agency like PSCL, hired by TNEB for its coal procurement, can be so short-sighted while selecting a vendor. In a country that depends on its coasts for a wide variety of goods, it’s appalling to observe errors in judgement in significant projects with massive financial ramifications.

There is a project that is currently underway to install two gantry cranes at the Ennore port for discharging gearless vessels. The venture is expected to be completed in under 2 years’ time.

The TNEB, amusingly, has brought out a 5-year charter period. The value of a self unloader becomes moot in two years (the gantry cranes are being installed to do exactly what an unloader does). Therefore, the un-loader becomes redundant for the next three years (more of an additional burden to TNEB) and these are the years when the charter hire (around Rs. 20 lakhs plus per day) are 30% to 40% higher than the current rate.

Additionally, infrastructure (gantry cranes) built at huge costs will be under-utilised. These are the years, when having two gearless panamaxes will be financially more viable and sensible than operating the un-loader. In fact, chartering of two gearless vessels to achieve and maintain the same level of transport and supply efficiency at comparable costs would make more economic sense than a self unloader, especially since the gantry cranes are scheduled to come up within two years.

The gantry cranes are being built at the cost of the taxpayers’ money and the government ought to look into it and plug the loophole. Interestingly, the Gem of Ennore was converted more than 10 years ago to suit the requirements of charter.

It was built as a gearless Panamax in 2000 at the Hitachi Zosen Shipyard in Japan. In 2001, she was converted to a self-unloader with cranes and conveyor in China, exclusively for carrying thermal coal from Paradip port in Orissa to Ennore in Tamil Nadu for the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. One wonders if the West Asia Maritime Ltd had an idea of things to come in future.

There are zero opportunities for the other bidders for whom there is no level-playing field. Comparatively, the rate for a charter hire per day is Rs. 14.49 lakh for GoE while a gearless panamax rate is 5.35 lakhs. It is evident that the cost per ton to TNEB on the unloader is much higher than carrying the coal on gearless panamaxes.

Why not float a tender for a period of one year instead of tying it down for five years? Even if TNEB considers chartering a self un-loader, the period should be limited to one year only and reviewed for continuation in 2013, considering the fast-changing ground realities.

The vessel has to be provided within the lay days which are less than two months away. A major conversion such as this takes no less than 5 to 6 months. Therefore, there is a conflict here. The chartering negotiations were going on as of 3rd week of July and the vessel is required no later than 15th October.

One cannot help but wonder about the track record of the shipping giant. WAMSPL (Singapore) entered into two contracts with Euroceanica, UK, in 2008 for the time-charter of 2 19,800 DWT chemical tankers – namely ‘LBU Onyx’ and ‘JBU Opal’ for a period of 5 years. WAMPSL is a subsidiary of West Asia and accordingly West Asia, Chennai, provided performance guarantees for each ship.

‘LBU Onyx’ and ‘JBU Opal’ were delivered to WAMSPL by Euroceanica in September 2008 and April 2009, respectively. The charter parties for the two vessels had a balance of approximately 32 months and 39 months to be performed when things started to go wrong.

WAMPSL failed to pay hire rates on time under both the contracts, as a result of which, Euroceanica arrested MV ‘Gem of Safaga’ in Australia as a security for their claim in November 2009.

Avoiding the Perils of Dangerous Car Modifications

TorqueCars http://www.torquecars.com, one of the UK’s leading online car modding communities today launched an awareness campaign to highlight the dangers of poor quality DIY car modifications by inexperienced owners.

We see many modified cars that are downright dangerous or at least going to be unreliable. It seems that lots of car owners with minimal knowledge are making changes to their cars without realising the implications. By highlighting these problems TorqueCars hope to minimise the negative impact created by these low budget, poor quality modified cars, and focus on a professional approach to car modification.

It only takes a few high profile incidents involving poorly modified cars before the clamour is raised for legislation outlawing all modifications or restricting the choice of modifications people can do.

Some young drivers seem to think that the more noise the car makes the faster it goes. Experience proves this to be incorrect and often these large exhausts and noisy induction kits have a negative effect on the cars performance and power.

One particular area of concern is with car electrics. Inexperienced DIYers will often overload circuits or hack into wires for power without making proper provisions for vibrations wear and adequate electrical insulation. These can often short out potentially causing a fire or at least creating a breakdown.

The most common electrical mistake is putting a wire straight through a bulk head without placing a rubber grommet around the wire to shield it from rubbing on the bulk head and wearing through.

A holistic approach to car modification is required where increased power is matched with up rated braking and handling. Dropping a 2.0 Turbo engine into a car which originally had a much smaller engine will offer a dramatic power hike but the brakes and suspension will be unable to handle this causing a potentially dangerous situation.

The main motivation for modifying a car is to maximise the drivers enjoyment of the vehicle. Most modifications merely release the full potential of a car where manufacturers have detuned or restricted the car in some way for economic or reputational reasons.

It is also fair to assume that each driver has their own personal preferences when it comes to a cars power band, handling characteristics and the aesthetic design of their car.

A well modified car should be safer than the standard unmodified one due to the stronger or uprated parts introduced. Braking distances can be dramatically shortened, the risk of skidding on a deceptive bend or corner or losing control should also be lower.

By increasing an engines efficiency there is often an additional saving in fuel consumption. This fact is particularly true when it comes to tuning modern turbo diesel engines.

It’s not just poorly modified cars that present a danger; poorly maintained cars are just as big a risk. According to TorqueCars senior partner Waynne Smith, “if you walk around any public car park you will find many cars will illegal tyres. The tread depth will be below the legal minimum or there will be damage to the sidewall of the tyre. We try hard to promote responsible car ownership to our members and readers of our articles.”

The forums at TorqueCars are a great place to go to discuss your car tuning project in details with experienced car modifiers and enthusiasts from around the world. By garnering as much information as you can you’ll be better placed to avoid the common pitfalls associated with modified cars.

Chiller Noise No Longer Problem After Acoustifence Barrier Installed

Installation of a 24-foot noise barrier utilizing Acoustifence outdoor sound abatement material at the new Sheboygan Festival Foods store is complete, ending complaints from nearby residents over extreme levels of noise leaking from the store’s industrial refrigeration chillers into the community.

Folks in Sheboygen were celebrating when the popular Wisconsin-based Festival Foods grocery chain opened the 70,000 square foot mega store here on September 16, 2011. Less than two weeks later, the community’s warm welcome had grown icy as neighbors began to complain about noise from the store’s industrial refrigeration chiller that was so loud, it violated the city’s noise ordinance.

Festival Foods enlisted the help of Acoustical Engineer Eric Wolfram of Milwaukee-based Scott R. Riedel & Associates, LTD, who consulted with Acoustiblok’s Jay Boland to choose Acoustifence noise barrier material, a product of Acoustiblok, Inc. of Tampa Florida, to bring the decibel level down below the legal threshold and restore peace and quiet to the neighboring community.

When Wolfram first investigated the site in September, decibel readings ranged between 78.4 and 90.7, loud enough to be a risk for noise-related health problems to nearby residents and workers, had they been subjected to the noise over time. The Sheboygan Department of City Development demanded the level be reduced by at least five decibels, Wolfram said.

“The existing refrigeration pump and motor systems produce extreme noise levels,” Wolfram said. “This noise reverberates within the sheet-metal paneled enclosure interior and escapes through several different exhaust and ventilation openings.

“Additional noise was generated by the cooling and exhaust fans mounted above the enclosure.”

Working with sound consultants from Acoustiblok, Inc., Wolfram designed a two-step solution, creating a barrier with Acoustifence noise deadening material to block noise around the massive system, and incorporating another Acoustiblok product, QuietFiber, to help reduce sound from reflecting off of the taller adjacent building behind the chillers.

Minimal structural changes were required, as the â…›- inch Acoustifence was easily attached to an existing chain link fence and the outdoor-rated QuietFiber with a perforated metal cover was capconed to the building.

The results were better than Wolfram had hoped, with decibel levels reduced to 57.3 the moment the barrier was in place – well below the City’s legal threshold, and more than 20 decibels lower than before the Acoustiblok products were installed. Neighbors are no longer bombarded with the irritating chiller noise, now replaced with the ordinary ambient sounds that existed before.

“Sounds from local traffic and roadways exceeded that of the compressor equipment after installation of the Acoustifence and QuietFiber products,” Wolfram said.

Lahnie Johnson, founder and president of Acoustiblok, Inc., applauded Festival Foods’ quick action in addressing the noise complaints right away, stating that the product combination was the perfect solution for this particular type of noise challenge.

“The Acoustifence and QuietFIber treatments were the perfect solution for the Festival Foods chiller noise, as both of these materials are designed to hold up in inclement weather, and as you can see from the results, they do their job well beyond everyone’s expectations,” Johnson said. “The Acoustifence and Quiet Fiber are also substantially less costly than attempting a structural enclosure solution.”

Acoustiblok Creates Damped, Expandable Acoustical Envelope in New York ITB Recording Studio

Acoustiblok noise abatement material was installed in the nearly completed Artist Workshop Studios recording facility, an in-the-box (ITB) studio designed and built by Artist Workshop Studios owner Tom Donofrio. Acoustiblok was chosen to provide a sound barrier for the small, 12 foot x 12 foot basement studio that could drop decibels levels within the space and provide a neutral acoustical environment for recording.

Donofrio, an electrical engineer, and musician who has built recording studios in the past using different sound deadening materials, chose Acoustiblok for his newest project after consulting with Marilyn Myers of Acoustiblok, Inc., because of its sound damping and noise blocking qualities, as well as its thin, flexible structure that adds no volume to walls within the studio space. Attached to the studs before drywall is hung, Acoustiblok performs without the need to add layers of rigid drywall or modified drywall, a method Donofrio used in the past with mixed results and significant floor space reduction.

“I was looking for a product that would lower the decibels in the studio without taking up any additional space,” Donofrio said. “I was able to achieve the neutral acoustics desired in the space, which makes me extremely happy.

“I didn’t want a sound quality that was too dead or too live, so the Acoustiblok turned out to be an excellent choice.”

Donofrio and a friend were able to hang the 3mm Acoustiblok on the newly framed stud walls within the studio space, including cutouts around a window and electric sockets, and seal the seams according to installation recommendations, all in less than four hours.

The Artist Workshop Studios recording space was built for Donofrio to indulge his own talents as an acoustical guitarist and vocalist, and to be made available to artists on a budget who need an affordable studio with high quality production equipment and the expertise of a seasoned technician to record a song or album.

“Acoustiblok is a perfect choice for establishing sound quality within a sound recording studio like this one,” said Lahnie Johnson, president and founder of Acoustiblok, Inc.

“Unlike additional drywall or other solid rigid materials used for sound reduction, the 1/8-inch heavy, limp Acoustiblok allows the room to be a damped, expandable acoustical envelope. As such, a studio or home theater has less reflection and actually sounds significantly better.”

Quiet Fiber® Used to Quiet Industrial Generator Noise at Galleria 360 in Santo Domingo

Installation of 18,000 square feet of non-fiberlass Quiet Fiber® noise abatement material has been completed in the massive generator room of the newly constructed, 750,000 square foot Galleria 360 mall in Santo Domingo.

Quiet Fiber, a product of Acoustiblok, Inc. in Tampa, Florida, was installed on the ceiling and walls of the mall’s generator and substation rooms. These rooms house the industrial emergency generators necessary to keep power running in this coastal area of the Caribbean, plagued by frequent power outages.

The Galleria 360’s industrial generators, installed by Santa Domingo-based Edelca, are a staple in this island republic. Edelca owner Carlos Montos, Edelca consulted with Jay Boland of Acoustiblok, Inc., and used Quiet Fiber on the project after achieving excellent results with Quiet Fiber on a similar project at the La Sirna Superstore in the eastern coastal town of Higuey, Dominican Republic.

“Even though Quiet Fiber is not the least expensive product on the market, I keep coming back to it because the results beat all the competitors’ noise deadening products with double the noise insulating qualities,” Montos said. “The customer on this job wanted to install a double layer of a different product but I convinced him to try the Quiet Fiber.

“I’ve been designing and installing these emergency generators for 20 years, and I have never had the results from other noise abatement products that I have with Quiet Fiber, and now I’m trying to use it everywhere.”

Montos says noise from these industrial generators on which the island has become dependent in order to maintain consistent power is a major problem plaguing businesses and residential property owners when the generators are running. Not only is generator noise bad for business, but its constant drone can cause permanent hearing loss. Another important consideration in the selection of soundproofing material is its fire resistance.

Recently in Santo Domingo a serious fire started in a generator room, and the existing foam sound proofing material was a prime contributor. The fire caused Montos to search for a new fireproof solution. Quiet Fiber is fire resistant even at 2,000 degrees.

“The noise levels are almost unbearable, so you need to have an adequate level of soundproofing in place when they are running,” Montos said. “I always install noise absorbing material wherever I install my generators, and Quiet Fiber is the best soundproofing product we’ve ever used.”

Montos and his crew were able to easily cut the Quiet Fiber to fit around electric conduits, and secured the material to the walls and ceiling with standard insulation stick pins.

The sound deadening qualities of Quiet Fiber will help to protect the mall’s employees, and streams of tourists and local residents from the high volume industrial noise caused by the generators when they are operating.

Lahnie Johnson, president and founder of Acoustiblok, Inc., says that the application of Quiet Fiber in the Galleria 360 generator and substation rooms was exactly what was needed for addressing the high decibel, reverberant sound emanating from the concrete walls.

“Quiet Fiber was designed with this type of hot, humid environment in mind,” Johnson said. “When you’re addressing solid surface noise issues, which in this case with concrete walls, you need a product with proven maximum sound absorption, high temperature rating for fire blocking, and hydrophobic (resistant to moisture).”
